My grandmother has always been a large part of my life, and a very strong willed person. I have great memories of my childhood with Nan and Pop. However Nan has long survived her husband, and has been travelling with friends and working up until she turned 90. I would give Nan a name, but all my life Nan has introduced herself to my friends as Nan, so to me the title Nan seems fitting.

This series of photos were taken to explore Nan’s environment and life. She no longer lives in her flat in Carlton, which was her home for 40 years. She loved it, and was one of the first people to move in when it was built. The commission flats no longer have a great reputation, but Nan loved the sense of community that was part of the flats.
